Where does history come from? Much of our knowledge of the past derives from original documentary evidence and, the further back we go, the more likely this is to be handwritten — personal correspondence, parish registers, wills, bills, property inventories etc. Using facsimile copies of original, 16th- and 17th-century documents from the Norfolk Record Office, we will work as a group to recognise different scripts and letter-forms, and learn to read Secretary, Court and Mixed Hands to support personal, academic, local or family research.
