This course explores the art of tapestry with a focus on examples in East Anglian collections. What is meant by the term ’tapestry’, with its multiple and sometimes confusing uses? How and where were these woven masterpieces created? And which contemporary artists are reviving the status of tapestry with dramatic modern pieces? We will look at examples through the centuries, from the 15th-century Bellerophon series to a 19th-century Burne-Jones design, to the contemporary tapestries of Henry Moore and the Jacquard weaves of Grayson Perry.
