Course Overview
In the post-war period, Britain had a stable two-party system. Today, we have electoral volatility and a plethora of parties. How and why has this change come about? How has electoral campaigning altered? Would a change to proportional representation be beneficial? How effective are political parties in representing citizens? What comparisons can be made with other European countries? This course examines the implications for democracy of the enormous changes in UK party politics over the past decades.
