Course Overview
Rosemary Tonks’s ‘chokingly funny’ comic novels have only recently been rediscovered and republished in full. We will look closely at her forgotten classic, Businessmen as Lovers (1969), which tells of Mimi and Caroline’s summer trip to a beautiful Italian island. We will consider how Tonks portrays the late Sixties, how she constructs her comedy and what makes this novel such a great summer read.
