Course Overview
Anita Brookner’s Hotel du Lac got a lot of stick when it won the Booker Prize in 1984 and this short novel, about a stubbornly-single romantic novelist who takes a trip to Lake Geneva, was dubbed ‘parochial’ by Malcolm Bradbury. In this half-day school we will examine the novel with regard to its setting, characterisation and plot, and decide how far we agree or disagree with Bradbury.
