Course Overview

Because of economic and religious troubles in the Low Countries, from 1565 onwards thousands of migrants, who became known as the Strangers,
arrived in Norwich. In this course, Professor Chris Joby explores the reasons why they came to Norwich and the ways in which they contributed
to the local economy, but also the challenges that this sudden increase in population presented to the Norwich magistrates. Professor Joby has studied the Strangers for the last 15 years and will present his own research during the course.
