This course explores Norfolk’s evolution from prehistoric origins to industrial powerhouse. We will use aerial photography and landscape analysis to uncover ancient monuments and structures, examine the Norman ‘reset’ of Norwich and the rise of the Blood Libel myth, and consider the social and architectural significance of Norfolk’s parish churches using Reformation-era records. Finally, we will survey Norwich’s unique urban layout, highlighting Dragon Hall’s merchant history, before charting the county’s 19th-century industrial transition to show how Norfolk’s market towns and its capital city navigated the road to modernity.
