This course explores one of the longest and most devastating conflicts in European history. Drawing in nearly all the major European powers, the war raged across the continent for 30 years with unprecedented levels of violence. Historians have long debated the causes and the consequences of this conflict. Was it primarily a religious or political struggle, or part of a wider, global crisis with climate as the driver? Does it hold a mirror to our own unstable and violent times?
