In 1934, Great Barfield, Essex, became a centre of English painting when Edward Bawden and Eric Ravillious moved there as a retreat from the big cities. Afterwards, other artists, such as Kenneth Rowntree, George Chapman and others, moved to this magnetic, artistic hub. Using pictorial slides and texts, we will analyse the aims and work of this group. No prior knowledge is required apart from an interest in art and its East Anglian roots.
